Mönezei Reservoir

Meune River, 45 km east of Dortmund, Germany

Description:

The Menesee Reservoir is a large artificial lake located in Germany, 45 kilometers from Dortmund. This reservoir is of great economic importance, and in summer it is also a popular holiday destination.

The Mönezei reservoir has an area of more than 10 square kilometers, and the total volume of water held here is 135 million cubic meters. The reservoir was established between 1908 and 1913, when a dam was built to control the water level. The dam has a hydroelectric power plant that generates electricity for the needs of the region.

The Mönesay Reservoir became notorious during World War II - in 1943, the dam was partially destroyed by the British Air Force, and a huge number of people died as a result of the flood. Today, nothing reminds of the past tragedy, and the Mönezei reservoir attracts bathers from all the surrounding villages and cities.
