Dortmund Station

Description:

Dortmund Station was founded in May 1847. At this time, a railway station connecting Cologne with Minden was opened here. Then the building resembled its appearance a majestic castle that occupied a large area in the north of Dortmund. For about 60 years it served as a station, after which the reconstruction of its building took place.

The new station was not inferior in size to the previous one and even became one of the largest stations in Germany. The unique architectural project, which was based on a red tiled roof, could possibly have lasted until today if the building had not been completely destroyed during the bombing during the Second World War.

The station was reconstructed only in 1952, and a new architectural project in a simple urban style appeared in its place. At first glance, the building of a transport facility may seem compact and even small. In fact, an entire city is equipped with two directions - north and south. A large number of exits to the platforms and additional administrative premises have been built here, which makes the movement of passengers convenient and fast.
