Church of St. Andreas

Andreasstraß e 27, 40213 D sseldorf, Germany

Description:

The Church of the Apostle Andrew in the style of South German Baroque was built by the Jesuits in the capital of the state of North Rhine - Westphalia - in the city of Düsseldorf.

It was built in the seventeenth century. A little later, the building of the Jesuit College was attached to the church building, as well as the tomb of the Wittelsbach family. In the tomb is the sarcophagus of the Elector of the Palatinate Johann-Wilhelm, whose monument is installed on Markplatz Square in front of the town hall building.

The interior of the church is impressive with life-size statues of the twelve apostles. After the Second World War, a new altar was built with a security guard and white marble staircases. The church also houses an ancient organ with a built-in electromechanical sound system.

After the dissolution of the Jesuit Order, the church became a parish church, which remained until 2005. After 2005, she joined the Order of the Dominicans.

Now pilgrims are given the opportunity to see the relics of the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, Andrew the First-Called and Matthew, located in the church of the Apostle Andrew.
