Church of St. Lambertus
Stiftsplatz 7, 40213 D ssseldorf, Germany
Description:
The Catholic Church of St. Lambert is the oldest building in Düsseldorf, which contains many religious values.
On the site of the church was previously a chapel built in honor of St. Lambert - Bishop of Maastricht. In its place, a church was built, consecrated in honor of the Mother of God, and its patrons were chosen Saints Lambert, Thomas, Pancratius and Apollinaria. At the beginning of the XIX century the church was consecrated in honor of St. Lambert.
The most important secular events of the city took place in this temple: the wedding of Duke Jan Wellem and the funeral of Duke William V. In addition to events, the church is visited by pilgrims because of the holy relics that are kept in it (Saints Apollinaris, Willeicus, Odile, Patroclus, Servatius, Lambert, as well as the martyrs of St. Ursula and the Thebeian Legion).
Among the religious monuments, the church keeps miraculous images of the Virgin, the Gothic protector of the XV century, sarcophagi and the tombstone of Duke William V.
