Church of St. Andrew the First-Called
Andreasstra ß e 27, 40213 Dusseldorf, Germany
Description:
The Church of St. Andrew the First-Called, located in the German city of Düsseldorf, became a parish church in the XVII century. Before that, it belonged to the Jesuit Order. After the dissolution of this order, the church was consecrated in honor of the Apostle Andrew. In the tomb of the church of the Apostle Andrew the First-Called in the XVIII century, Princes Wittelsbach found their last shelter.
The modest appearance of the temple, built in the style of South German Baroque, contrasts with the internal splendor. The main decorations of the interior are sculptures of 12 apostles in full growth, figures of saints and evangelists, an altar with staircases made of white marble and an ancient organ in which a modern electromechanical sound system is built.
At the end of the XX century, the church was included in the list of state-protected monuments of architecture and religion, and since 2010, the main treasury of the temple was opened for visitors - a room where the relics of the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, Andrew the First-Created, Matthew and several other saints are stored.
