Kempen Castle

Thomasstrase 20, Kempen, Germany

Description:

The western regions of Germany are famous for their picturesque land. In them you can find dense coniferous forests, juicy plots of land with well-groomed corn fields. While in western Germany, don’t forget to visit Kempen. It was here that one of the most beautiful and ancient castles in Germany, the Kempen Castle, found its place. The building has everything that should be present at the ancient castle: high and strong walls, round towers with a jagged top, the main gate with a flaunting coat of arms on them, a fortified main tower.

In 1801, the castle was built on the site of a knightly fortress by an unknown count. In 1855, the daughter of the Dutch king William I Marianne of Prussia purchased the castle, reconstructed it for a museum and placed her collection of 600 sculptures. Wilhelm also enriched the castle with beautiful vineyards.

In 1991, restoration work was completed, which expanded the western wing of the building. There is now a five-star hotel in the castle.
