Düsseldorf Town Hall
Marktplatz 1, 40213 D sseldorf, Germany
Description:
The town hall of Düsseldorf, which is located in the heart of the city, consists of three outbuildings located in the form of the letter P.
The building of the town hall was built in the XVI century in the Renaissance style by the project of Alessandro Pasqualini. The building has an eight-sided five-storey tower, inside which there is a spiral staircase. Inside it is also a bell of the XVI century.
Initially, the entrance to the town hall was through the tower. Later, when the old part of the building was rebuilt by the architect Johann Josef Kouven in the XVIII century, he made the main entrance in the Rococo style next to the tower. Above the entrance there is a balcony, from which the mayor greets residents during the holidays and honorees who came to Düsseldorf.
Inside, the town hall building was remade in a modern style. Meetings of the Council of Elders are still held in the Hall of the Council of Elders. On this floor there is also a portrait gallery of Düsseldorf ober-burgomists. On the second floor is the Jan Wellem State Hall, where guests are received.
