Radschleger Sculpture

Burgplatz 21-28,40213 Dusseldorf, Germany

Description:

Radschleger – a famous sculpture installed on a fountain located on the Burgplatz square in the German city of Düsseldorf, is one of its symbols. Images of Radschleger (translated from German - "boy, twisting wheel") can be found in the city and on the covers of sewers, and on various souvenirs, and even in forms for baking. This sculpture was donated to the city in 1954 by sculptor Alfred Zschrosch.

The origin of this city symbol is told in several legends. According to the oldest, in 1288, when Düsseldorf became a city, children began to twirl with joy. Another version of the appearance of the symbol says that after World War II, local guys earned their bread by making a “wheel” for money for a cheerful audience.
