The Castle Tower
Burgplatz 30, 40213 D ssseldorf, Germany
Description:
The Castle Tower is the only structure that has survived from the Düsseldorf Castle, built in the XIV century.
The castle was constantly a victim of fires, which significantly destroyed it. Restoration work was long and expensive, but the castle was restored after another fire. At the beginning of the XVI century, a fire broke out again. The best Italian architects restored the castle, and also completed a brewery, a theater, a riding school, stables. In this form, the castle stood for almost 300 years.
The final fire occurred in the XIX century, when the castle burned down completely. This time no one was able to restore it. The ruins of the old castle were demolished, but left a stone tower, which alone survived the fire. It was renovated in 2001 and then opened the Museum of Maritime and Shipping. There is a restaurant on the top floor.
