Drachenburg Castle

Drachenfelsstr. 118, Konigswinter, Deutschland

Description:

Drachenburg Castle combines a country estate and a castle, which are located on the Drachenfels mountain, near the town of Königovinter. The castle was built in 1884 and was a stylistic building of the Middle Ages. The construction of the structure was started by Baron Stefan Saarter, who earned his capital through speculation on the Paris Stock Exchange. The baron never lived in the castle.

An abundance of towers, bay windows and jagged walls take all visitors back to medieval times. Interior decoration is characterized by innovations of the nineteenth century. Heating and lighting in the castle is provided by steam heating. Spiral staircases made of cast iron, steel beams and cast-iron columns harmoniously fit into the overall architecture of the building. Three architects, 20 artists, worked on the construction of the castle, who were engaged in the interior design of the building.

In recent years, Drachenburg Castle was a Catholic boarding school and a military school named after Adolf Hitler. Drachenburg Castle invites all history lovers to plunge into a fairy tale.
