Oberhausen Castle

Oberhausen, Centroallee 1000, 46047, Neue Mitte, Germany

Description:

Oberhausen Castle is famous for its picturesque nature in North Rhine - Westphalia. The building is located among the park near the Emsher River. The building is built in the classical style without the medieval atmosphere and excessive pomp of the Baroque. The castle consists of the Grand and Small Castle, combined with a gallery that houses famous museums: the Ludwig Gallery, the Memorial Hall of the Nazi regime, an exhibition of children's art. Visitors are also encouraged to visit German and international restaurants, which often host weddings, holidays and family celebrations.

Oberhausen Castle in the XII-XIII centuries served as the family estate of the Oferhus family, who gave the castle this name. Documents from 1443 mention the castle as a moat-encircled fortress that protected the ford on the river. At this time, the castle was the possession of the von Gofen, who made a lot of efforts to equip it. In 1615 Oberhausen was transferred to Konrad von Boenen. The eighty-year war destroyed and looted the castle, which had strategic importance during the war.
