Essen Town Hall
Porscheplatz, 45127 Essen, Germany
Description:
Essen Town Hall is the city administration building. Its height is 160 meters, making it the second tallest building in the city. The current building of the town hall was built in the popular at that time international style. However, the history of the city hall belongs to the XV century.
The first building of the town hall was built in the XV century and was an exquisite stone structure decorated with sculptures of the patrons of the city. In the middle of the XIX century, the building was first rebuilt in the style of classicism, but at the end of the same century, the town hall again changed its appearance in the direction of pseudo-Gothic style.
During the Second World War, the building was badly damaged, so it was demolished. The town hall acquired its current appearance in 1977. Throughout the history of its existence, the town hall, although it changed its appearance 3 times, always stood in the same place. In March 2010, an indoor gallery was added to it, used as a shopping center.
