Frankfurt Cathedral by Kaiserdom

Domplatz 1, 60311 Frankfurt am Main, Germany

Description:

Frankfurt's Kaiserdom Cathedral (Imperial Cathedral) was the coronation site of the kings of the Roman Empire, as well as the coronation site of the German Kaisers.

It was never the seat of a bishop, but it was here that many German emperors and kings received their titles from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries.

The cathedral was built for a long time - from XIII to XV centuries. Throughout its existence, it has survived almost in its original form. Not even World War II touched him. Outside the temple there is a tower of red sandstone almost 80 m high. It was built in the distant XV century. At that time, the tower was considered the highest in the city.

Inside the cathedral there are works dedicated to the biblical crucifixion, made with carved ornament. Also in the room is the famous altar of Sleeping Mary of the XV century. The chapel, located next to the imperial cathedral, houses the cathedral museum.
