Augustinian Museum

Augustinermuseum, Gerberau 15, 79098 Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

About the company:

The Augustinian Museum (Augustinermuseum) of Freiburg is the largest museum in South Baden and is one of the largest and most famous museums on the Upper Rhine. It is located in the building of the former Augustinian heremite monastery with a cross procession (covered bypass gallery around the monastery courtyard) in the Gothic style.

The significance of the Augustinian Museum in the cultural and creative life of the Upper Rhine from the Middle Ages until the 20th century can only be compared with museums such as the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar or the art collection in Basel. The exhibition includes original sculptures from Freiburg Münster, tapestries, works of jewelry, paintings and wooden sculpture reflecting medieval symbolism and beliefs. The life of the XVIII century is reflected in faience, pulp ovens and clocks. The paintings of the XIX and XX centuries depict picturesque views of the Black Forest.
