Hamburg Riperbahn Street
Reeperbahn 94, 20359 Hamburg, Germany
Description:
Riperbahn Street in St. Pauli is very similar to Amsterdam’s Red Lantern Street. The Germans called it the “Sin Mile.”
The name of the street comes from the name of the rope manufacturer Reepschl No. 228. Previously, it was used to make ropes for ships. Later, this place, together with the adjacent streets of Davidstrasse, Herbertstrasse and Grossep Freiheit, became an area of night entertainment. There are nightclubs, restaurants, discos, cafes and bars, as well as numerous sex shops, brothels, thematic museums and strip clubs. Prostitution on this street is legal only at night. In some street lanes, entry for women and children is prohibited. These lanes are big brothels.
On the south side of the street there is a police station that monitors the order and cleanliness of the area. Nearby is a museum with wax figures of famous personalities.
Interestingly, it was in Riperban clubs that the Beatles began their career.
