Beginen Tower

Am Hohen Ufer 3, 30159 Hannover, Germany

Description:

Beginen Tower, located in the German city of Hanover, got its name in honor of the now forgotten German order of Beguin nuns. The construction of the tower was completed in 1357, when it was part of the wall behind which the monastery garden was located.

The room inside the tower changed its purpose for several centuries. In the XVI century there was a prison, in the XVII - an arms warehouse, in the XVIII century peat was stored here. During the Second World War, the tower was not damaged, and an art studio was located here immediately after the war. There was a restaurant in the building for a while, but it closed in 2007. Today, the Beginen Tower is part of the historical city museum.
