Göttingen's Old Town Hall
Description:
Göttingen. The Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) was built in 1369-1444 on the site of an older building. Since 1978, the city administration no longer meets in it, but there is a tourist information center.
The decoration of the building is a Gothic arcade with pointed windows, and near the stairs is a huge stone lion holding the coat of arms of the city. Another attraction is a bronze door handle, made in the shape of a lion's head, dating back to the beginning of the XIV century.
The Old Town Hall is a building of noble proportions and exquisite colors. Stone masonry of walls, window casings and coat of arms - with such meager means an impressively beautiful decor is achieved.
