The easternmost city of Germany - Gerlitz
Description:
Few cities in Germany can be proud of preserved architectural structures in the style of late Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque or Art Nouveau, like Gerlitz. During World War II, the city escaped the fate of most German cities. The German government in 1991 included Görlitz in the restoration program and today this provincial town has about 4,000 state-protected monuments. The silhouettes of Gothic churches, ancient towers, cozy courtyards and fountains resemble Italian cities with their atmosphere. It is no coincidence that Gerlitz fell in love with international directors and such films as “80 Days Around the World” or “The Grand Budapest Hotel” were shot in Görlitz. And the fact that in Görlitz there is an exact copy of the Holy Sepulchre, can be an important argument for visiting this holy place of pilgrimage for many Christians.
I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised to get acquainted with this unique city!
