Description:

The monument to the Battle of the Peoples was erected in Leipzig in memory of the so-called "Battle of the Peoples", which took place here from 16 to 19 October 1813. During the liberation wars, the Austrians, Prussians, Swedes and Russians defeated the French army of Napoleon Bonaparte.

The monument was built in 1898 by the Berlin architect Bruno Schmitz. Its opening took place on the centenary of the Battle of the Peoples in 1913.

The height of the monument is 91 meters. 500 steps lead to the top observation platform of the monument, and two elevators rise to the average observation platform, located at a height of 57 meters. Inside the monument is the Hall of Fame with 324 horsemen depicted on the ceiling. There are also 4 statues of “remembrance workers”, which symbolize courage, popular power, strength of faith and dedication.

Near the monument lies the Napoleon stone, which is considered part of the general complex of the Battle of the Nations.
