Museum of Antiquities of the University of Leipzig, Nikolaikirchhof 2, 04109 Leipzig

About the company:

The history of the Museum of Antiquities at the University of Leipzig began in the 18th century when Johann Friedrich Christ began to use antiquities from his collection in lectures.

For a long time, the museum’s collection consisted mainly of coins, but in the second half of the 18th century the situation changed and the museum’s collection was actively filled with various vases, figurines, lamps. Unfortunately, for most of the 19th century, the exposition of the museum was replenished mainly with plaster casts. Original exhibits began to appear in the museum's collection only at the end of the 19th century, but since then the expansion of the museum's collection has been ongoing.
