St. Spirit Hospital
Koberg 11, 23552 Lubeck, Germany
Description:
Lübeck Hospital of the Holy Spirit is a well-preserved medieval building of this kind, located in Central Europe.
Hospital for 170 places for the poor and elderly was built in the XIII century. The patron was the Order of the Holy Spirit, after which the hospital was named. It served until 1970, when it became a nursing home.
The hospital is adjacent to the hospital church, built in the XIII century. It is decorated with frescoes of the XIV century: “Almighty God”, “Christ and the Madonna on the throne”, as well as late Gothic carvings on the altar. The church is dominated by pink and white colors, which are atypical for a Gothic-style cathedral.
The hospital annually hosts charity fairs, funds from which go to the fund of the hospital and the church. The fairs present handicrafts of famous artisans from Germany, Scandinavia, the Baltics, Peru.
