The Monastery of St. Anne in Lübeck

St.-Annen-Straß e 15, 23552 L beck, Germany

Description:

The Catholic monastery of the Augustinian Order of St. Anne in Lübeck did not last long. Now in its building is the Museum of Sacred Art.

The monastery was built at the beginning of the XVI century (1504), but in 1515 it was dissolved. The building began to gradually come into disrepair and collapse. In the XX century, the building of the former monastery was restored and opened in it the Museum of St. Anne. It houses a huge collection of church altars brought from Northern Germany. The main exhibit is the altar of the Passion of Christ by Hans Memling, who created it in the XV century.

Dutch masters supplemented the museum with various examples of liturgical clothing, statues and icons. Also, tourists are given the opportunity to explore the refectories for laity and nuns, cells, sacristy, gallery and capitular hall, which have been preserved in the monastery.
