Market Square
market Square, Lübeck Province, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
Description:
The market square is as it should be in the center of the city. It appeared in the XIV century thanks to the Town Hall. At that time, the city government often came with petitions. Sometimes they were not always accepted immediately and had to walk somewhere before the reception. So, local merchants broke up shops for trade, and musicians earned by playing various instruments. There are still a lot of people in the market square. Some still trade, and some as a tourist.
In addition to a variety of souvenirs and sweets, visiting guests are still attracted by the Town Hall itself. It was built in 1570. The building in the Gothic style has survived to this day almost as new. Now there are tours to the wine cellar, the bride’s chambers and the Admiralty room. There is a legend among the locals that if you go around the Town Hall several times, you will be lucky.
