Anselm-Franz-von-Bentzel-Weg 12, University of Mainz, 55128 Mainz, Germany

Description:

The Johannes Gutenberg University Botanical Garden, located on the campus of the university in Mainz, Germany, was founded in 1946-1955. On the area of the former military landfill with a size of more than 10 hectares, greenhouses were built, a large garden was laid out and an arboretum was created, which occupies about 30,000 square meters of the garden territory.

Today, more than 8,500 different flowers, shrubs and trees grow in the Johannes Gutenberg University Botanical Garden. The garden, separated by manicured alleys that bear the names of great scientists, consists of a large greenhouse complex built for tropical and subtropical plants, a systematic garden, an alpine slide and arboretum. There are benches throughout the garden for a comfortable rest. Also on the basis of the Botanical Garden, shifting exhibitions dedicated to nature and ecology are held.
