Excursion to the German Technical Museum

The German Museum of Masterpieces of Science and Technology is the world’s largest polytechnic museum. In Germany, and in the Bavarian capital – Munich, there are many museums of different branches of science, culture and art, and many have the name begins with the “German Museum...”, but only the Polytechnic Museum monopolized these two words in the title. If you say "German Museum" without specifying, then you will definitely indicate the way to the Museum Island, where the complex of buildings of the Munich Polytechnic Museum is located.

Perhaps the three main sections of the museum are ships and navigation, aviation and engineering. The museum was created in the early twentieth century and then it was three horses that pulled the economy of Germany.

We will begin the tour with the history of shipbuilding, a story about the hard work and fate of the sailor. We will be able to touch (carefully, do not scratch with a nail!) a real steam boat, carefully study the details of its steam engine, the size of an engine from a scooter, be sure to look at the port tug and the main gem of the collection - the first German combat submarine U1. Then the turn will come to aviation and its history. We will go from the first gliders and balloons, past the corrugated aircraft of the period between the two World Wars to the first jet aircraft and missiles, and then we will be able to get acquainted with helicopters and modern aviation. We will still have time to get acquainted with other departments of the museum of your choice.
