Andex Monastery, Lake Aibsee
Description:
This tour can take as little as half a day, as the road to Andehs Monastery takes only about an hour. This monastery is located on the holy mountain and is the second pilgrimage site in Bavaria after Altotting.
On this place already in the XII century was the fortress of the Andechs, but when their family line in 1248 due to the lack of heirs ended, everything passed to the Witelsbach. In 1274 there was a miracle - the epiphany of a blind woman, and so it became a place of pilgrimage, for which in 1278 the old Gothic church was enlarged in size. In 1388, the missing relics were found again, and the number of pilgrims in 1392 reached 60,000 believers.
The date of foundation of the monastery is considered to be 1455. After the fire of 1669, the church had to be rebuilt, and on the 300th anniversary of the founding of the monastery, in 1755, with the help of the great architect Yohan Baptiste Zimmerman, a pearl of Bavarian Rococo was built - the modern Andehs Church, in which the German composer Carl Orff, who wrote his most famous work - Carmina Burana, is buried.
Near the church is one of the most famous breweries in Bavaria - Andechs, with their delicious monastery cuisine.
After lunch in the monastery beer room we will go to Lake Ammersee, where we will walk along their main promenade and enjoy the magnificent scenery.
