Munich streets and museums

Description:

The excursion “Munich Streets and Museums” is dedicated to the original life of the Old Town and continues the acquaintance with Munich. Slowly, in your rhythm, tuned to your tastes and preferences, my excursion to the museums and streets of Munich for those who like to walk around European cities, listen to their rustles, smells and ancient aura. In the summer we visit the oldest patrician garden, in the winter, if desired, the city museum.

Not far from Marienplatz, away from the traditional sightseeing routes lies part of the Old Town, long called "Hackenfiertel".

We'll go to her main street. The name has nothing to do with the Hackerbra brewery, it comes from an old German word that defines a square area.

Pay attention to the beer hall on the street corner. She's offering beer of the same name. Above the beer room is a small, only 24 square meters. m, apartment, which miraculously survived the war and was then restored by the city, because it was made in the 18th century in the Rococo style. Tiny by museum standards, it resembles the castle pavilion Amalienburg with its silver ornaments, but only 16 people can enter it and therefore there is no museum, but a law office. Pity!

Let's walk down the interesting street. House No. 10 belonged to the family of sculptor J. B. Straub (1707-1784). Built this apartment building in 1741 by architect and colleague Fischer. Then there lived a student and son-in-law of the owner – Munich sculptor Roman Anton Boos. The facade of the house reminds of the urban development of the 18th century, with preserved elements of the Munich Renaissance. The sculpture of the Guardian Madonna in the center of Straub was accompanied by a saying in Latin “Mary is the basis of our joy.”

Loves and another attraction of the house: ceramic relief “6 dogs play with the ball”. He recalls that this and the surrounding 5 houses, including the oldest restaurant, since time immemorial has been called the "Dog Ball". If you thought that there was a shelter for dogs, you did not go wrong with the word “shelter”!

In Munich, the sign of the "print of a dog's paw, circled" marked houses for the poor, charitable monastery buildings.

Old houses from the 12th century to the 19th had not numbers, but a picture or sign. These traces of the fantasies of the old inhabitants were preserved on the corner houses for a long time, until our time! From here, on the contrary, in the back of the courtyard of an ancient house, is the oldest patrician garden in the city, known since the 15th century. The running track leads to the old fountain, almost 300 years ago it was only brought from the workshop of A. Boos and delighted with its cheerful streams surrounding lush greenery.

Time is inexorable... The tour continues...

Both 2-hour and 3-hour options are possible. We end in a traditional Munich cafe with an exchange of impressions over a cup of coffee.
