Church of St. John of Nepomuk

Description:

Munich. Sightseeing. Azamkirche (German: Asamkirche) is the church of St. John of Nepomuk. It was built in 1733-1746 by the Azam brothers. Cosmas Damian Azam (1686–1739) was a German sculptor, painter and architect. He worked mainly with his brother, stucco master and sculptor Egid Querin Azam.

The church is considered one of the most significant architectural structures of South German Late Baroque. It was originally conceived as a chapel of the Azam brothers living in Munich. After Aegis Quirin managed between 1729 and 1733 to acquire several plots of land near his house, he built in 1733 together with his brother Cosmas Damian the church of St. John of Nepomuk.
