The Rindermarkt Brunnen Fountain
Rindermarkt 1, 80331 Munich, Germany
Description:
The Rindermarktbrunnen Fountain is located in a historically valuable part of Munich, namely, in Old Munich, on Rindermarkt Square. The fountain was built in 1964. It was built on an uneven square according to the sketches of the architect Joseph Henselman, who depicted a small herd of bronze cows and bulls that drink water from a reservoir of unusual shape. “A very amazing view for a fountain,” many will think. “Why are these bulls and cows in a watering hole in the square,” others will echo them. Actually, there's nothing surprising. Everything is explained very simply - in the past, this square was a cattle market, and in order to pay tribute and not forget the history of his city, it was decided to install this original fountain.
To the Rindermarkt fountain from the Viktualienmarkt market is Rosenthal Street. In the south of the square there is also the Lion Tower (Loewenturm) with a height of 23 meters, which in the XIII century, under the Duke of Bavarian Heinrich Leo, as historians suggest, was one of the first city fortifications.
The fountain in Rindermarkt Square during walks, especially on warm days, is loved by many locals, as well as tourists, as it is very unusual and is a great place to relax. Visitors to the fountain watch this herd of cows, many even mentally can be transported to a time when it was not so cozy and quiet, but, on the contrary, very noisy - the hum of cattle blocked even a very loud speech of people.
