Fountain WM-Brunnen
Riem Mischgebietsflachen Willy Brandt Allee, Munchen, Germany
Description:
In Munich, the World Cup Fountain was erected in honor of the 2006 World Cup. It was erected at the northern entrance of the new shopping center of Munich. Since the fountain is dedicated to football theme, it was decided not to invent something intricate for a long time, but, on the contrary, to make the meaning of the composition immediately clear and understandable. This is what the fountain looks like – a huge football, which at first glance makes it clear what the theme is dedicated to the building.
A stone ball weighs more than eleven tons. It slides on a thin film of water in the fountain pool. A stone ball made of natural stone from South Africa moves at a pressure of 1.2 bar per minute per 200 liters of water. Thus, the heavy ball is constantly moving in different directions, and is constantly washed with water.
The builder of the World Cup fountain was a mason from Lower Bavaria. It was made as soon as possible – in just ten weeks. The weight of the stone ingot before processing was 33 tons. The stone was rounded with circular saws and then polished with a specially designed grinding stone. The fountain was opened on May 12, 2006.
