Munsterplatz 74, 89073 Ulm, Germany
Description:
Ulm Cathedral is one of the most famous monuments of German architecture. The building can be seen from anywhere in the city, as its island spire stretches to a height of 162 meters. The history of the construction of the building is quite large, it dates back to the XIV century and continues until the XIX century. The cathedral from the very beginning was built five-nave, which was the reason for such a long period of completion of work. Its high spire was initially 100-meter, but by the end of the XIX century it was completed by another 62 meters.
The decorations of the Ulm Cathedral are brilliant: unique stained glass windows, famous choirs carved from an oak soaked in the Danube, which has acquired an unprecedented fortress and resistance for a century and a half. In addition to these decorations, it is necessary to note the sculpture of Ghana Malcher Christ the Sufferer, which adorns the main portal of the cathedral. The main attribute of the building is a sparrow located on the roof of the building. This little chick carries a great meaning and an interesting legend that everyone can learn from any local resident of the city of Ulm.
