China Tower
China Tower, English Garden, Munich, Germany
Description:
The Chinese Tower, located in the southern part of the English Garden in the German city of Munich, is an extravagant wooden structure with a height of 25 meters. It was built in the 1789-1790s by architect Johan Baptiste Lechner according to drawings by Joseph Frey.
The model for the China Tower was the Great Pagoda in the Royal Park of London, which, in turn, was built on the model of a porcelain pagoda in the garden of the Emperor of China. In 1944, during the bombing of the city, the Chinese Tower burned down, it was restored as close as possible to the original in 1952. Next to the tower is the second largest city beer garden.
