Olympic Stadium

Germany, Munich, St. Spyridon-Louis Ring 21

Description:

The Olympic Stadium, also known as the Olympiastadion, is a multifunctional stadium in Munich.

It is located in the northern part of the city, in the center of the Munich Olympic Park. The stadium was designed by German architects Gunter Benish and Frei Otto. During the construction, large acrylic glass canopies and steel cables were used for the first time in such numbers for the construction of sports facilities. The wide and transparent dome was meant to symbolize a new, democratic and optimistic Germany. This is reflected in the official motto of the Olympic Games: “Happy Games”.
