The statue of Bayern
Matthias-Pschorr-Straß e 1, 80336 Munchen, Germany
Description:
Bavaria is a bronze hollow statue located in the Theresa meadow in Munich. A female figure in an antique outfit with a wreath in his hand raised above his head symbolizes Bavaria.
The sculpture was created in 1843-1850 on the instructions of the King of Bavaria Ludwig I. The authors of the composition are the famous architect Leo von Klenze and the sculptor Ludwig Schwantaler.
Special mention should be made of the direct performers - foundrymen Johan Stieglmeier and Ferdinand von Miller. At that level of foundry development, this order represented a significant technological complexity. To cast a hollow statue with a height of 18.52 meters and a weight of more than eighty tons today is not an easy task.
The statue is also one of the most popular observation decks, like the Statue of Liberty in New York. Inside is a staircase of 66 steps, leading to the head of the statue and is the observation deck.
It is near this statue that the famous Oktoberfest is held.
