Description:
Ludwigstrasse Street, located in Munich, was built by Ludwig I as a street representing the Bavarian Kingdom.
It begins at the Gate of Victory in the north and ends with the Arcade of military commanders in the south. The street was equipped by the architect Klenze, who gave all buildings an antique look with elements of the early Italian Renaissance.
On the street is the classic Leuchtenberg Palace and the monument to Ludwig I. The palace has been the residence of the Ministry of Finance of Bavaria since 1966. There is also the State Library, built in the style of the early Renaissance and numbering 5 million volumes. Inside it are sculptures of Greek scientists.
The church of Ludwigskirche on this street was built in the XIX century in the style of Roman classicism. At the north end of the street is the church of Theatinerkirche.
The Victory Gate was modeled after the Arch of Constantine in Rome. They were crowned with the figure of Bavaria with four lions. The square also houses Ludwig Maximilian University.
