Church of St. Clement in Munster

An der Clemenskirche 14, 48143 Munster, Germany

Description:

The Church of St. Clement is a Catholic church built in the Barroco style by order of the Archbishop of Cologne and Bishop of Münster Clemens August of Bavaria. The construction of the church was carried out according to the project of the architect Johann Conrad Schlauna at the hospital of the Bonifratra monastery (1745-1753).

During World War II, the entire monastery complex was destroyed by Allied bombing. After the war? in 1956? the hospital was rebuilt, but in a new place. Painful work was carried out for several decades.

Today, the Church of St. Clement is a beautiful Catholic church and is used not only for worship, but also for concerts of chamber and organ music.

The richest interior decoration of the temple, made in the Rococo style, is striking. Munich artist Johann Adam Schöpf painted a plafond on the theme of the glorification of St. Clement. The walls of the church itself are decorated with decorative stucco by Jacob Rauch. The martyrdom of St. Clement is depicted on the altar icon.

The modern organ is installed in a niche near the south wall of the church and was made in 1973 by master Franz Braille in an ancient organ building of the XVIII century.
