Church of St. Jacob
Jakobsplatz 1, 90402 N rnberg, Germany
Description:
The Church of St. James (Jakobskirche) is an architectural creation of the Teutonic Order. From 1810 it became the third parish evangelical church in the city.
The church was built in the XIV century as a hospital for the knights of the Teutonic Order on the site of the then Romanesque chapel. After its demolition, the vacant place was immediately taken by a new three-nave church.
The six-level church tower is slightly out of sync with the main building. After World War II, the temple was restored without columns with cylindrical vaults.
Jacobskirche is decorated with various ancient sandstone figures. The interior of the cathedral with stained glass and symbols is made in the Gothic style. The tombstones located in the temple are decorated with the coats of arms of the Teutonic Order.
After air raids in 1943, the dome of the church was damaged. It was reconstructed until 1962. Inside, the vaulted rooms and the hall had to be replaced.
