Fountain of Armbrüstschützenbrunnen (Fountain of the Crossbow Shooter)
Hallerwiese 12, Nurnberg, Germany
Description:
Armbrüstschützenbrunnen (Fountain "Arbalette") is a small but very original fountain in one of the oldest squares in the city. In the middle of the fountain bowl, which, by the way, in shape resembles a cup, which is very symbolic, on a small pedestal there is a bronze figure of an arrow who directs his crossbow into the air.
The fountain was built in the early XX century by the artist and sculptor Leonardo Herzog. Judging by the inscription on the bronze plate, the monument is dedicated to all participants of crossbow shooting tournaments, which were held here in the period from the end of the XV century to the second half of the XVIII century.
The first competition was held in 1487 in honor of Emperor Frederick III.
