The Fountain of the Bloody Creeks (Teufelsbrunnlein)

Konigstrase 12, Nurnberg, Germany

Description:

Fountain "Devil's streams" is a small but very interesting stone sculptural composition, the foundation of which dates to the end of the XIX century. The sculptural composition is made in neo-Gothic style. The fountain is located at the base of the north tower of the Church of St. Lawrence, just on the site of the healing spring.

The relief adjacent to the wall of the tower looks like a bizarre house surrounded by a wrought-iron fence. At the bottom of the relief there is an image of the coat of arms of the city, and on the roof of the house on different sides there are a dragon and a devil that a school-age child grabs.

The scene illustrates the legend of a schoolboy who, playing after school with his comrades, decided to cheat them. When he was convicted of cheating, he replied that he was not lying with the words: “Fuck me if I’m lying!”
