The Fountain of the Pipepiper (Dudelsackpfeiferbrunnen)

Unschlittplatz 7a, 90403 Nurnberg, Germany

Description:

The Dudelsakpfeiferbrunnen Fountain is a small sculpture that depicts a man playing a bagpipe. Actually, the name of the fountain is translated as "Player on bagpipes". Modern sculpture appeared relatively recently, in 1979. The original composition dates back to the end of the XIX century, during the Second World War it was badly damaged.

The model for the fountain, presumably, was a wooden sculpture of a piper, which, like fragments of the original bronze composition, is located in the National German Museum. By the way, the prototype for the wooden model of the piper, probably, could serve as the eponymous engraving by Albrecht Dürer of the early XVI century.
