Description:
Fountain Ludwig-Aisenban-Denkmal is a magnificent ten-meter obelisk, which is now located in the Gostenhof area, near a small square. The name of the monument can be translated as "the monument of the Ludwig railway" (or Ludwig railway).
The monument is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the opening of the first railway in Germany "Bayerische Ludwigseisenbahn", which connected the two Bavarian cities of Nuremberg and Fürt. Initially, the fountain was located in front of the city station, but due to the construction of first tram lines, and then the metro, it changed its location.
The sculptural composition depicts the figures of a man and a woman, which symbolize the cities of Nuremberg and Fürt. At the top of the obelisk are the figures of an eagle and a young man. The young man symbolizes the triumph of the development of science and technology, and the eagle was depicted on the coats of arms of the Bavarian kings.
In the pediment there is a memorable relief and an inscription, which captures the scene of the departure of the first German train.
