Plarrer Skyscraper

Plarrer 43, Nuremberg, Germany

Description:

Plarrer is the first skyscraper built in 1951-1953 in Bavaria. Since 1988 it is considered a monument of architecture of Germany. The administrative building was designed by architect William Schlegtendal. It is a 15-storey building with iron-concrete frame, made in a style called New Objectivity.

During the construction of the building, certain protests arose from the population, because after the Second World War the state learned material losses, and futuristic architecture required large costs. On the roof of the skyscraper was created a terrace, which, according to the architect, completely glazed, and now there is a tea room of the mayor of Nuenberg.

The shape of the building resembles a rectangular parallelepiped, but in reality the area of each subsequent floor is reduced by several centimeters, which creates a narrowed shape of the skyscraper. Such creativity attracts the attention of many passers-by and tourists.
