Nuremberg Television Tower
Hansastra ß e 1, 90441 Nurnberg, Germany
Description:
The Nuremberg Television Tower is the tallest building in Bavaria. Its height is 292 meters, making it the third tallest tower in Germany. Among the locals there is a funny name of the tower - "Nuremberg egg" - this is due to the unusual shape of the observation decks and the main structure.
From the point of view of architecture, the Nuremberg TV Tower looks very unusual, and the roots of the appearance of this form go back to history. In the XVI century in Nuremberg worked watchmaker Peter Heinlein, who made pocket watches oval shape. Because of its resemblance to a chicken egg, this watch was nicknamed the “Nuremberg Eggs” and was a very fashionable thing among Renaissance gourmets. Therefore, we can say that the unusual name of the TV tower is a tribute to the memory of history.
Construction of the tower began in 1980, and the initial design involved an observation deck and a revolving panoramic restaurant. But due to financial problems, the entertainment part of the project could not be implemented, and the tower is only used to transmit radio and television signals.
