The Protestant Church of St. Egidien
Egidienplatz, 90403 Nurnberg, Germany
Description:
The Protestant Church of St. Egidien, built between 1711 and 1718, is the only surviving Baroque church in Nuremberg with some Romanesque fragments. The predecessor of the current church building was a small church that burned down in the early XVIII century.
The Church of St. Egidien is located in the district of the same name, which was very popular among wealthy citizens who preferred to build their luxurious mansions here. It is no coincidence that the Baroque style was very suitable in the design of most buildings, because it is characterized by such features as monumentality, an abundance of decorative elements and sculptures. Today, the temple appears to the eyes of many tourists restored after the war, as fires after the bombing greatly damaged the interior and facades of the temple.
