Executioner's Museum

Trodelmarkt 58, 90403 Nurnberg, Germany

About the company:

As you know, the executioner in the medieval city was always a very special person. At that time, there was an indisputable tradition - the executioner's dwelling was located away from the city center, outside the city wall. In Nuremberg, the executioner’s house was located near the wall on the side of the Pegnitz River, and for four centuries representatives of this profession lived here until 1806.

Looking at the facade of the building, eloquently speaks of the professional affiliation of its owner - the board depicts an axe cutting off his hand. This is the hallmark of a profession not respected in Nuremberg. But it happened that executioners came with quite peaceful requests - since they knew the human body well, they could easily correct dislocations.

In the house of the executioner in Nuremberg, a museum is opened, the exposition of which introduces visitors to the Nuremberg executioners and lawyers. Of great interest is the official diary of executioners of the XVII century, a unique document on the history of law. And crossing the bridge of the Executioner to a small island, you can admire the beautiful landscapes of the historical part of the city.
