Marble Palace

Im Neuen Garten, 14467 Potsdam, Germany

Description:

The Marble Palace in Potsdam, built in the style of early classicism, was the favorite residence of Frederick Wilhelm II.

The construction of the palace was completed by architects Carl von Gontard and Karl Gottgard Langans (author of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin) in 1792. The building is a two-storey square building of red brick. The facade of the building is decorated with gray and white marble, which gave the palace its name. On the roof there is a rotunda, with which it is most convenient to watch the beautiful view opening from the palace.

A few years after the completion of the castle began to expand. It was completed side wings designed by Michael Philip Bowman. Decorated wings from the inside Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse.

Now there is a museum in the palace, which has been open to visitors since 1932.
