Bladenhorst Castle

Westring 346, Castrop-Rauxel, Germany

Description:

The city of Kstrop Rauxel is famous for its castle Bladenhorst, made in the Renaissance style.

The territory of the castle contains several buildings: the main building, which has the shape of the letter "P", two buildings previously used as kitchens, as well as two observation towers. The entrance to the castle can only be reached through the bridge, as the building is surrounded by a moat with water, about 3 meters wide. The gate has retained its original appearance and is the oldest part of the castle.

A small local improvised park is very popular with tourists, especially young couples. Unfortunately, the original appearance of the castle has not been preserved due to many restoration works. In addition, on the territory of the castle there was a chapel that burned down in the XVI century. In 1266, the castle belonged to the knight von Blamhurst, but was soon sold to the genus von Dungelen. In 1338, von Dungelen gave the castle to the County of Cleves.

At this time, the owner of the castle is a private person, and therefore it is impossible to conduct excavations to determine the original structure of the castle.
