Regensburg

Regensburg, Valhala, Liberation Hall. Regensburg, Walhalla, Befreiungshalle

Description:

Our individual excursion to Regensburg will begin with the departure from Munich. On the way we will first go to the city of Kelheim, where on the mountain at the foot of the Danube, the Bavarian King Ludwig I with the help of the famous Bavarian architects Gertner, Klenze and Schwanshtaler in 1863 built a monument in honor of the victory over Napoleon 18.10.1813 - the Hall of Liberation.

Then we will go and visit another monument built by the same King Ludwig I in 1842 – Valhalla. This giant structure, towering over the Danube, was built in the ancient Greek Doric style, inside which there are 163 busts of great German scientists, composers, politicians who glorified Germany at different times.

A trip to Regensburg is the only surviving large medieval city in Germany, an open-air museum city where all architectural styles have been preserved, from the second to the twentieth centuries. Here we will make a walking tour of the city center, visiting the old Roman gate since 179, the old town hall of 1356, in which the Eternal Lettag was going from 1663 to 1806, the St. Peter Cathedral, the construction of which began in 1250, walk along the stone bridge, which is almost 900 years old (1135-1146), across the Danube. We will also visit one of the oldest churches in Germany. Emeram, the beginning of construction of which began in the VII century, as well as the Scottish Church St. Jacob since 1150. We will see the monument and the house of Kepler, an astrologer who lived and worked in Regensdurg. It was Kepler (1571–1630) who discovered the law of planetary motion. After a walk, lunch at an old Bavarian restaurant, where I will talk about Bavarian traditions, cuisine and, of course, Bavarian beer.
