St. Peter's Cathedral
Domplatz 1, 93047 Regensburg, Germany
Description:
One of the most notable attractions of the German city of Regensburg, and, perhaps, the whole of Bavaria, is the beautiful Cathedral of St. Peter.
It was built of stone during the reign of Carolingus and was the residence of the bishop. In the XI century the territory of the church was expanded. In the XII century, the cathedral was badly damaged during a fire, and it was decided to demolish it, and instead of the old one in the XIII century, a new cathedral in the Gothic style was built.
Over the years, there have been constant restructuring and reconstruction. The view that the cathedral has now, it acquired in the middle of the XIX century. In those days, two tall towers were completed, as if woven from stone lace. Standing in the square in front of the cathedral, it is difficult to see the top of the towers, so high they are.
Inside the building there are beautiful stained glass windows and frescoes dating from the XIV century. In the Episcopal Palace there are jewelry that have a centuries-old history.
