Fountain of Hans-im-Gluck (Lucky Hans)
Hans-im-Gluck-Brunnen, Geisstrase, 70173 Stuttgart, Germany
Description:
The fountain Hans-im-Gluck (Lucky Hans) is a composition based on the fairy tale of the Brothers Grim.
The bizarre and interesting fountain has been in the historic part of Stuttgart since 1909. The composition depicts a simple rural boy in a hat, shirt, trousers and boots with a gilded pig among his legs.
The author of the bronze work is the German sculpture Joseph Zeitler. According to him, the prototype for the bronze Hans was a boy whom he met at the slaughterhouse.
A boy with a pig majestically stands on a pedestal in the shape of a bell, which is surrounded by a beautiful wrought-iron net with plant ornament.
